이 앨범에 관하여
The Distance Between Seconds
“Roche Limit”와 “Ergosphere”, “The Last Stable Orbit”는 앨범의 중력 중심을 이룹니다.

We crossed the orbit where the clocks agreed With distant Earth and every star we knew The engines burned against the falling dark And every measured second still was true Then numbers changed Not distance Not velocity But time The beacon behind us climbed toward red Its rhythm thinning in the empty night A minute here became an hour there The universe accelerated out of sight We are falling But never through We are moving But standing still to you The distance between seconds grows The deeper that the vessel goes A clock beside my hand still turns While somewhere else a century burns No wall appeared No border shone No warning crossed the glass Only gravity Bending every road That light and time could pass The stars behind us gather close Their ancient colours shift and fade The sky becomes a narrow ring Around the darkness gravity made We are falling Past the place Where every outward path returns The engines speak The instruments glow The accretion horizon burns And if you watch us from afar You never see us disappear Our final signal stretches red Growing weaker year by year But nothing stops The cabin clock continues The heart continues The fall continues There is no frozen moment here Only less universe ahead And more universe behind The distance between seconds grows The deeper that the vessel goes Your future races overhead While ours descends One second At a time
Between the Earth And the distant Sun There are places Where falling becomes still Not empty Not fixed Not safe Only balanced Gravity pulls from two directions Motion answers with a third And somewhere in the mathematics A small machine can wait L one Facing the fire L two Behind the world L four Leading the orbit L five Following forever We came here without stopping We stayed here without landing A point with no surface A harbour made of equations The planets move The station moves The Sun moves And still the geometry returns Again Again Again No anchor No ground No horizon Only the curve Only the mass Only the speed A fragile equilibrium Written into space We sleep between forces That never sleep We drift inside a balance That never rests And every orbit whispers Stay where the numbers meet
Twenty rotations Twenty flashes Twenty cuts through the dark Again Again Again A dead star The mass of a sun Compressed into a city Turning A lighthouse without an ocean A clock without a hand A magnetic field Stronger than memory Pulse Silence Pulse Silence We count you from the outer system We correct our clocks by your return Your beam crosses the receiver And the empty cabin burns Millisecond Millisecond Millisecond The universe has many clocks But few are made from death Iron beneath the crust Neutrons beneath the iron Matter pressed until atoms surrender Still it turns Still it calls Still the signal arrives We crossed three million kilometres And the rhythm did not care Pulse Silence Pulse Silence If we lose the Sun If we lose the maps If every beacon fails We will find direction In the timing of the dead
The galaxy was blue When the light began Before our engines Before our language Before our names It travelled while space grew Not through expansion With expansion The wavelength stretched The colour fell The signal moved toward red And red And red Until the ancient fire Became invisible We measure distance In weakened colour We measure time In stretched light Every line in the spectrum Has moved from where it started Hydrogen remembers Where hydrogen should be But the universe Has carried it away Redshift A recession written in colour Redshift A ruler made from light The galaxies do not flee Through some waiting emptiness The emptiness itself Becomes more empty More distance Between distances More silence Between signals And the farther we look The younger everything becomes Until looking outward Becomes looking backward Until the red grows dark Until the dark becomes time
We watched the moon approach Slowly Still whole Still round Still certain of itself But gravity does not pull equally The near side fell harder Than the far side could follow A difference Across one body A difference Large enough to become destruction No explosion No impact Only mathematics Pulling stone from stone The surface opened Mountains lifted Dust crossed the terminator The moon became a ring Piece by piece Orbit by orbit Nothing had touched it Nothing had struck It simply came too close The tidal field increased The structure failed The world forgot How to remain one world Fragments around the planet Fragments catching sunlight Fragments tracing The orbit of what had been There is a distance Below which strength must answer gravity There is a distance Below which gravity always wins We crossed the limit And listened To a planet Making rings
The black hole turns And space turns with it Not around the darkness With the darkness Dragged Twisted Carried There is no standing still here Every path must move Every clock Every photon Every machine Must turn The axis is hidden But the rotation is not We enter the ergosphere Where spacetime itself Has angular momentum A region outside the horizon But already claimed by spin We fire the engines backward Still we move forward We point against rotation Still we turn The geometry refuses rest Something enters Something leaves With more energy Than it brought The black hole slows By an amount too small to see And we steal motion From the dark Penrose Your machine was mathematics Ours is metal Both obey the same strange law Nothing stands still Nothing stands still Nothing stands still Around a rotating abyss
Closer Another orbit Closer Another orbit The disk beneath us burns white Gas moves at impossible speed Atoms collide Fields twist Light bends upward from below We are circling Where circles begin to fail There is a final radius A last place Where an orbit can remain an orbit Inside it No correction No waiting No return Only plunge The engines hold us At the edge of stability One orbit Two Three The clock changes The stars distort The dark occupies half the sky We can stay here But only barely The smallest error Becomes direction The smallest loss Becomes descent The last stable orbit Not a wall Not a line of light Only a solution That stops having another solution beneath it We circle the answer Again Again Again Until fuel becomes time And time becomes choice
Turn off the transmitter Turn off the engines Turn off every instrument That knows how to speak Listen There is still something A faint microwave sea Coming from every direction Not stars Not planets Not machines The afterglow The universe When the universe was young enough To become transparent Before galaxies Before suns Before carbon Before eyes Photons released When matter and light Stopped holding each other They have travelled ever since Stretched by expansion Cooled by time Two point seven two five kelvin Almost nothing Almost everywhere A fossil without stone A photograph without a camera We rotate the receiver The signal remains North South Forward Behind The same ancient whisper Slightly warmer here Slightly colder there Tiny imperfections From which everything grew Every cluster Every galaxy Every world Every listener Hidden once Inside fluctuations Smaller than a thought Turn off the transmitter Listen The beginning is still arriving
There is more universe Than universe we can see Not hidden by dust Not hidden by distance Hidden by time itself A boundary made From the age of light Beyond it Maybe galaxies Maybe emptiness Maybe the same structures Repeated without meaning Their light has not reached us Some light never will Expansion places distance Between cause and answer There are regions We can name mathematically But never visit Never signal Never receive No telescope Can wait long enough No engine Can cross the growing separation The observable universe Is not the universe It is the part Allowed to have spoken to us A sphere centred On every observer No centre of creation Only a centre of information We look outward And find a horizon We travel outward And carry the horizon with us Beyond the observable There may be suns No eye from Earth will ever know Civilisations Outside all possible conversation Histories That cannot enter ours Real And forever absent
The stars end first Not quickly Not together But one by one The small red suns remain Long after the bright ones disappear Then darkness White dwarfs cool Neutron stars turn slowly Black holes wait Galaxies dissolve Into wider orbits The night becomes larger Than structure If protons decay Matter itself Learns how to vanish If they do not Then iron remains Cold Silent Almost forever Black holes inherit the universe Then even black holes Lose their mass Quantum by quantum Hawking radiation Into an empty future A time so distant That numbers become geography Ten to the sixty Ten to the hundred Beyond every calendar That could ever be built No stars No planets No chemistry No warm machines Only particles Too far apart to remember collision The universe approaches equilibrium No useful difference in temperature No gradient No work No clock With anything left to measure And still Not nothing Space remains Fields remain Possibility remains In forms too small to build a world The last proton sleeps The last black hole fades The final photon travels Through a universe That has almost forgotten How to change No ending arrives Only less happening Forever
