room、audience、ticketing、schedule、security、artist、poster、crew、money、benefit、risk、そしてapparent chaosを特定のtimeにthousands of peopleの前で成立させるために必要なpractical systemsのすべてである。
Grahamはconventional music-business careerからではなく、theatre / benefit work、とりわけSan Francisco Mime Troupe周辺からSan Francisco countercultureへ入った。 Jefferson Airplane、Grateful Dead、Big Brother and the Holding Company、Quicksilver Messenger Service、Chet Helms、Family Dog、posters、light shows、Fillmoreが、ideasにrichでありながらnew scaleをmanageできるestablished systemsにはcomparatively poorなcultureを形成した。
Deadはimprovisation、communal values、conventional show structureへのlooser relationshipをrepresentし得る。
Allman Brothers Band、Jimi Hendrix、the Who、Grateful Dead、Miles Davisほか多数が、nameそのものがdiscographyへ入るvenueと結び付いた。
Grahamはlarge-scale concert organisationをpolitical / humanitarian fundraisingへ何度も応用し、Live AidやAmnesty InternationalのConspiracy of Hopeのようなeventsにも関与した。
thousands of people、international broadcast、complex scheduleが関わるとidealismにもorganisationが必要になる。
このstructureはvery long bookをunusually readableにもする。voicesがchangeし、emotional temperatureがshiftし、promoterはown legendのunquestioned authorityではなくinterpretationのobjectになる。
2004 Da Capo paperbackがclean modern recommendation
