What Remains of Home

The mixed society aboard the former Earth expedition encounters living civilizations that have chosen radically different solutions to conflict. Those encounters force the travellers to confront what their own ship has become and whether people who have grown alien to one another can still live together.

About This Album

Instead of solving the trilogy with a cosmic revelation or final external enemy, it turns the ship itself into the final civilization under examination. The album tests multiple incompatible approaches to coexistence before resolving through restraint rather than consensus.

Concept and Narrative

The crew encounters three possible social futures; an old Earth transmission reveals that home remembers an obsolete version of the protagonist; the protagonist finally releases exclusive ownership of memories of the dead; political disagreement aboard the ship becomes a constitutional crisis; people on opposing sides refuse orders that would require violence; the original expedition ends and a new travelling society is formally created.

Home, memory, identity, disagreement, political authority, autonomy, enforced sameness, isolation, coexistence, restraint, grief, transformation and the difference between origin and ownership.

The ship sends a final transmission toward Earth, creates a new compact among the peoples aboard and chooses the route farther into unexplored space.

None of the encountered civilizations provides a definitive solution to social conflict; the return, withhold and continue positions aboard the ship all retain legitimate concerns; the future of the new travelling civilization remains uncertain.

Sound Palette

Mellotron, Hammond organ, acoustic piano, electric piano, early analogue synthesizer, expressive clean and overdriven electric guitar, melodic electric bass, natural acoustic drums, restrained percussion and layered backing voices.

More fragmented and textural than the previous albums, using Mellotron, organ, piano, electric piano and analogue synthesizer in altered harmonic contexts. Familiar sounds return but no longer carry exactly the same meaning.

More selective than Album II, ranging from isolated clean phrases and strange harmonic textures to restrained period overdrive and sudden eruptions during the internal crisis.

Authentic early-to-mid-1970s analogue progressive-rock aesthetic with tape warmth, organic dynamics and period keyboard/guitar textures. More experimental than the earlier albums without adopting modern cinematic, digital or metal production.

Philosophical, alien, melancholic, fragmented, contemplative, tense, transformative and cautiously hopeful.

Archive Notes

A perfectly peaceful room where every voice moves almost together; thousands of political borders; a civilization answering contact with deliberate silence; an old Earth message addressed to a vanished younger self; navigation and archive systems becoming contested; individuals refusing orders one by one; names from different suns written side by side.

A World Without Argument, Ten Thousand Borders and Those Who Chose Silence form a three-part examination of unity, separation and isolation; Earth Remembers Someone Else mirrors the protagonist's treatment of the dead; the title track resolves the private/shared-memory argument begun in Album I; No One Owns the Ship turns the trilogy's ethical themes into an internal political crisis; The Refusal answers domination with restraint; The Long Becoming completes the recurring Earth, Memory, Voyage and Becoming ideas.

01 · A World Without Argument
No raised voices in the chamber
No banners in the square

No arguments at dinner
No factions anywhere

Every question found an answer
Before the question grew

Every difference softened
Into something all could use

We agree
We agree
We agree

No prisons built for thinkers
No soldiers at the gate

No children taught to fear
The ones their parents learned to hate

We asked them how they managed
What no world had ever done

They answered almost gently:

"We stopped becoming many
And learned to become one"

No one silenced opposition

There was no opposition left

No one punished wrong belief

There was no wrong belief to keep

The room remained peaceful

The smiles remained kind

And every voice around us
Moved at almost the same time

We agree
We agree
We agree

Some aboard called it freedom
From the oldest human wound

Some of us could barely breathe
Inside that perfect room

We left without a verdict

Their city shining still

No war

No hatred

No refusal

No need to choose
02 · Ten Thousand Borders
One valley
One council
One hundred homes

No capital
No central law
No throne

Across the ridge
Another language
Another calendar
Another vote

They traded water
Not authority

They shared a road
Not hope

Ten thousand borders
Drawn to keep the powerful small

No empire can assemble
If no one can command them all

No single voice can silence
A continent at once

No single hand can close
Every mouth

But when the western crops failed
No eastern council moved

They argued over distance
And what responsibility proved

A plague crossed seven valleys
Faster than agreements could

Freedom held

Cooperation failed

Neither fact was wholly good

Some aboard admired them

Some said:
"This is how we survive"

Separate enough
That no one faction
Can own another's life

Others looked around our ship

At everyone we'd brought

And wondered if ten thousand borders
Were safer than one thought

No empire

No union

No common fall

No common rise

They had solved domination

By making togetherness
Almost impossible
03 · Those Who Chose Silence
We sent our names
Our origin
The records of our flight

We offered language
Maps
And proof
We came without a fight

No answer

We sent the story
Of the worlds
That travelled now with us

We said:
"We know that contact
Can become a kind of trust"

No answer

At last
A single message

Clear
Unhurried
Small

"We know what contact becomes

That is why
We choose none at all"

No weapon threatened us
No border turned us back

They did not hate the stranger

They had simply studied
Every path

Trade becomes dependence
Aid becomes debt

Alliance becomes hierarchy

Every open door
Eventually asks
Who entered first

If we had lived this way
I would never have known you

I would never have lost you

No one aboard this ship
Would be here

No wound

No debt

No memory shared

No hand extended

No hand withdrawn

Perhaps they were right

We left anyway
04 · Earth Remembers Someone Else
You said the stars looked different
Once there was no atmosphere

I still cannot imagine
What it means to see them clear

Your mother keeps pretending
She does not count the years

Your room is mostly storage now

I hope that doesn't hurt to hear

Your voice was younger
Than I remembered

Mine was older
Than you would know

I know you'll laugh at this
But I still picture you at twenty

Impatient
Always talking
Never finishing your tea

You wanted everything immediately

You were terrified of leaving

I suppose both things were true

You were speaking to a person
Who had not met another world

Who had not loved beneath another sun

Who had not turned the ship

Who had not watched anyone die

Come home when you can

And if you cannot

Know that we remembered you here

You remembered someone else

Not wrongly

Not falsely

Just someone who no longer exists

I had done the same
With the dead

Held one version still
And called the holding love

Earth remembered me

The way I remembered you
05 · What Remains of Home
I had kept the best of you
Like objects behind glass

The evening by the window
The words we almost had

I returned to those moments
Until repetition made them smooth

Every edge that did not fit
The person I wanted to lose

Others remembered anger
Silences
Mistakes

Years I never witnessed
Choices I would not have made

Their memories did not diminish you

They made my version small

I had mistaken one open room
For knowing the whole hall

What remains of home
When the place itself moves on?

What remains of love
When the person is truly gone?

Not the perfect memory

Not a room preserved in light

Perhaps home is simply
What continues
After nothing stays alike

So take this

The evening I guarded

The one I thought was mine

The rain against your window
The misunderstanding
The time

Let someone else remember it

Let it change inside their mind

I do not lose the moment

By refusing to keep it mine

Earth is still behind us

You are still among the dead

Neither place can hold me now

Except in what I carry ahead

Perhaps that is enough
06 · No One Owns the Ship
Earth launched this vessel
Earth buried those we knew

Everything we carry
Begins with what they gave us to do

We owe them every answer
Every map
Every name

Home may have changed

It remains
Where the journey came

We have watched one gift
Rearrange a world

Watched assistance become power

You would bring this knowledge
To one planet
And call that neutral?

No archive this dangerous
Belongs in a single hand

Look around you

Half this ship
Was never born beneath their sky

You call them passengers
Because the paperwork says why?

The mission died
When we turned around

What lives here now
Is ours

Not Earth's alone

Without Earth
There is no ship

Without us
There is no future

Without restraint
There may be neither

Navigation locks changed
Archive doors sealed

Communications restricted

Orders contradicted

Someone moved guards
Toward the central deck

Someone else cut power
Before they reached it

No one fired

Yet
07 · The Refusal
Seal the navigation deck

No

Remove them from command

No

Cut their archive access

No

Lock the southern habitation ring

There are children there

No

You are giving them control

I am refusing yours

Then you stand against us

I stand beside you

I will not do this

We have argued for return
Since the vote began

I still believe it

I will not empty someone's air
To make it happen

I would destroy those archives
Before giving them to Earth

I will not burn them
While someone is inside

No revelation came

No argument was won

No sudden truth descended
And made the many one

People simply stopped

At the edge
Of what belief could justify

One refused

Then another

Then enough

We still disagreed

We were still here
08 · The Long Becoming
No nation signed the document
No world stood at the head

Names from different suns
Were written side by side instead

Human
Other
Born aboard
Arrived through war or flight

No passengers

No owners

Only those who shared the night

Send them what we learned

Not only what we found

Send the failures
Send the arguments
Send every buried sound

Tell them life is everywhere

Tell them nothing stays untouched

Tell them meeting someone else
Will always change you
More than once

And send them this

Not how you died

Not the day I came again

Not the promise at departure

Not the grief that followed then

Send the evening by the window

The rain
The words we could not align

Two beings failing gently
To understand
And still deciding
To try

One route bent toward Earth

One vanished into black

No one called the old world false

No one swore we would not come back

But this ship had become
Something no launch plan ever named

To return it as an answer
Would deny how much had changed

We found someone else

Someone else became part of us

We became someone else

And still

We continue

Not united

Not finished

Not certain

Alive

The stars ahead were silent

Not empty

Just unknown

And for the first time

That was enough
